Why can’t she just act her age?!?!

Why is it I have the kid that refuses to act their age?

Dear Adilynn,

You are only 6 months old start acting like it!

Love, Mommy!!!

At six months old most babies are just starting to sit up on their own. Adilynn is already crawling. She has weened herself off the bottle, and can drink out of a cup (with help). She prefers to sleep in her crib instead of snuggling with Mommy and Daddy in their bed. I have no idea where she gets this independence :)! It’s a double edge sword! I love how her personality is showing through but I really want her to still act little!

Some of the other accomplishments that I do like are: she is figuring out what the word “no” means… she does think it’s funny. She can say “mama”, she loves to splash in the bath, she can eat items that dissolve easily, and she loves to talk! Here are some of our favorite pictures that we have taken recently!

She’s GROWING so fast!

ImageHow is it one day you look at your baby and think she’s so tiny and the next day you look at her and think oh my she has grown! Yes, I know she’s still small she’s finally hit 10lbs but she’s finally busing out of her newborn clothes because of how long she is! I know that it’s not the norm for your baby to wear newborn clothes for almost 11 weeks, but we have gotten so use to her being small it’s a little bittersweet. Thankfully she has Grandmas that LOVE to shop for her so she has plenty of clothes.

Adilynn has also started cooing! She loves to tell Mommy about what her and Daddy did all day long. This is a favorite time of both Mommy and Daddy. We get to watch her do this at lunch and when Mommy gets home daily. She’s also started kicking her legs like crazy when she gets excited! This is really cute in the bath when she splashes and then is confused about the splashing! Image

We are trying to enjoy every second of her being small and all of her firsts, because she is changing so quickly!! Image

Managing work and a baby…

How exactly do you manage your busy work schedule and a newborn? This is the age old question of all working parents. Whether you are a stay at home parent, working from home, or working a traditional job, learning to juggle it all may be one of the biggest challenges of all. Then when you throw in a job that requires you to travel you get a whole new level of complexity.

This has been the reality of our family lately. While I work outside of the home my work travel is about 50% of the time. For the past five years of my career this hasn’t been an issue, but now that we have Adilynn it’s no longer an “adventure”. Though Joe works from home most of the time there are jobs that can and will take him away for a few days at a time. How you get something structured is beyond us. Right now we are taking it one trip at a time and trying to do as much planning as possible so that we can ensure that we can travel together as a family.

However, what about those unexpected work trips that you find out two days ahead of time you have to make? How to you manage that, especially when you are nursing?

I don’t think that there is a right or wrong answer, just a lot of flexibility from everyone including Adilynn. How do you tell a 9 week old baby that instead of getting her typical 2 bottles a day she has to have 5?

Is this just the new way to manage you family and career??

Adilynn 2 months

Wow, where has the time gone? It seems just like yesterday that I was bursting into the room to toss the pregnancy test and Joe. Now our little girl is 2 months old. She is the light of our lives and we have said many times we don’t know what we did for entertainment before we had her. From the second we found out we were expecting she has had our hearts (duh look at how cute she is).

Two months is a very exciting time because she is still little but she is starting to interact with us more so it makes her awake times much more enjoyable. She loves to watch things move with the fan being her favorite. She will lay on the bed and laugh at the fan, it really helps to remind you to enjoy the simple things in life.

She is thankfully following in her Mommy’s footsteps so far and is just a ‘lil shrimp. At her 2 month Dr. appointment she weighed 9lbs 7.5oz and was 22.1 inches long, but she is extremely healthy. We just thank her for getting lots of use out of her newborn clothes. We laugh because we have a closet full of clothes and diapers but none of them fit her because she is still in newborn everything, but that’s okay one day we will wish she was this small again (hopefully it’s many many years from now, probably the teenage years).

Some highlights from the past month are: She made her first road trip to both Frontenac and Hutchinson. She was a little champion traveler by sleeping the entire time. She also attended the Big 12 tournament activities and went through the transition of Mommy going back to work and starting to spend the days with Daddy (okay this was more of a transition for Mommy than Adilynn), and she has slept two nights in a row more than 8 hours straight (lets pray this trend continues). We can’t wait to see what the next month bring in our new adventures!!! Image

Welcome to our Family Blog

Come with us as we document all the fun and challenges that we endure as first time parents. We have been together for 8 1/2 years, married for 1 1/2 years and Adilynn is 2 months old. We couldn’t be happier to have her as she is the answer to our prayers. We love to have fun together and now love to watch our little girl grow view the world through her eyes.
